Welcome to the Teach and Travel program that will provide a quality of service to enable you to both intern and explore countries whilst experiencing many aspects of cultures and the way of life around the world. Undertaking a long term visit to a country around the world is a unique experience whether in Asia to Africa or even in the outback of Australia everyone will have a different experience and so many stories to tell and it will also change you for a lifetime. To be able to engage and learn within a cultural schooling environment will have their own challenges, but will also be rewarding and remarkable.
Depending on the country in which you choose to travel the new environment can be an unusual place where things will seem very different from what you are used to. Many countries around the world will have so many stereotypical views and idea of what the country is like but you will never know until you experience the country for real.
This program is designed as a cultural exchange and is aimed at providing intern positions for teacher of English as a foreign language (TEFL) experience in schools for groups of people who would otherwise not be able to do so. The training program that has been devised for you allows for this. It is not a teacher recruitment program, and all candidates need to understand the emphasis is on the cultural exchange, and the need to be in such program to receive a visa that allows them the experience, with an allowance, in school. In addition, the support network, organised cultural exchange and training make this a unique program for you seeking to spend time in another country and learn about the culture while at the same time making a contribution to the local community through language teaching and cultural exchange.
English teaching is a sought after occupation in many schools around the world where English is not the native language or first language but is a requirement when travelling around the world. To work as a teacher independently governments require that a teacher is fully qualified with an undergraduate qualification, as well as at least 2 years’ experience working in the teaching field with children or adults, with a TEFL qualification preferred. As a foreigner you remain uncommon in many parts of the world and one of the challenges of visiting is the need to understand that everything is different to what you may have experienced previously. Many cultures around the world do not understand the needs of foreign people – their experience is very limited. You need to expect that some customs and work practices are different and you may encounter some degree of culture and shock and frustration as you settle within the country. It is important that you have the aptitude and independence to deal with these issues and are ready to meet the challenges head on. it will be very rewarding for those who can.
The Teach and Travel Program is Made Up of the Following Parts:
- Teach & Travel training and Orientation program
- TEFL Course and certification
- Teacher intern placement
- Travel and excursion time
TEFL Certification
You will learn the skills required to be confident and successful as a teacher intern, including lesson plans, classroom methods and administrative procedures. The TEFL certificate and course is provided by an accredited company based in Ireland who we will work alongside to get you enrolled and help you prepare for the certificate and the modules to ass and have your certificate in hand. it will comprise of online tutorials that will help you learn all the skills you will need to get your certification and become a confident and successful teacher of English.
Placement
During your application you might have made a request for a particular country, this could have been in Asia Europe or Africa etc. Please note though we endeavor to provide you with your preference there are by no means guaranteed. You will be advised of your actual placement country towards the end of the 4 week TEFL training period.
Placements are based on the schools and the safety of the country and the selection will be made to ensure all our students will be safe within our care and the care of the group leaders.
The following are key points in regard to the teacher intern placement:
- Once you have been allocated a school in cannot be changed
- The visa issued is linked to the school and the company and cannot be altered
- There will always be a minimum of three teacher interns in all school.
- Teacher interns are under a contract to the school to work for a period they have nominated. They have an important role in the school and a responsibility to teach the classes they are allocated.
Transport to the school
JBD Travel will ensure the students will be able to cover the transport to and from school within the destination by public transport or minibus. The students are in charge of their own flights to and from the country they have chosen to travel to.
Arriving at the school
Whilst we will provide you with as much information as possible about the school the placement you will be based at will give you a private tour of the school and induct you into a program where you will know everything about the school and the code of conduct of a school and how they expect you as a \Teacher to behave with the students and what is expected of you as a Teacher Intern.
Free Time and Excursions
During the holiday period and at the end of your placement at the school. You will be able to travel within the country to any destination. this will be at your own expense we will allocated a few days or extended period of time organised prior to your travel of where you wish to do after the placement and we will also have planned excursions that we as a company will take you on so you can explore the country and learn the culture and have a unique lessons learning how to cook and speak the local languages and maybe lear a few sporting activities depending on your own personal preferences your trip teaching and traveling will be a trip of a lifetime that you will never forget.
